The Federal Council has decided to increase the number of work permits delivered to qualified extra-European nationals in 2018. 3'500 B permits and 4'500 L permits will be available next year.
The 500 additional B permits will go into the federal reserve and will be available upon cantons' request.
The Federal Council has also increased the quotas for European service providers admitted in Switzerland for a mission longer than 120 days per year. The annual quotas will amount to 3'000 L permits and 500 B permits for all Switzerland (quotas granted on a quarterly basis).
On the 1st of July 2013, Croatia has joined the European Union (EU). The extension of the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons to Croatia was negotiated under a new Protocol III.
Protocol III entered into force on the 1st of January 2017. As from that date, Croatian nationals benefit from the free movement of persons.However, they will be subject to specific restrictions on access to the Swiss labor market (priority of workers in Switzerland and compliance with pay and working conditions).

These additional work permits will go in the federal reserve and will be availaible to the cantons who request it .
No additional quotas have been awarded for the end of 2016.
