The Labour Market Supervisory Council (le Conseil de surveillance du marché de l'emploi) is composed of representatives of the employers' organisation (Union des associations patronales genevoises - UAPG), the trade unions (Communauté genevoise d'action syndicale - CGAS) and the State. It is chaired by the head of the Département de la sécurité et de l'économie (DSE).
This Council is responsible for defining the broad outlines of the Canton's labour market policy and with supervising the work of the specialist labour market commissions.
In this context, the Geneva Tripartite Commission for the economy, which meets weekly, is managed and administered by the Département de la sécurité et de l'économie (DSE), and on its behalf by the OCIRT's service for the employment of foreign nationals, in collaboration with the social partners.
It examines and rules for the most part on permit applications for foreign nationals whose employers have submitted an application (first lodged with the Service Etrangers at the Office cantonal de la population et des migrations (OCPM)).
